The pianist Tomaz Petrac was born in a well-known family of musicians in Maribor. His first steps in learning to play piano were with professor Mira Cvetko. Later he was taught by professor Jelka Suhadolnik. At the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, he studied under the guidance of the famous Dubravka Tomsic and graduated with Honours. During this time, he pefected his piano playing with J.Lateiner, P.Badura-Skoda, L.Brumberg, and, in chamber music, with Antonio Janigro.

He returned home with a concert diploma and started his career as an art and culture free lancer. A the same time, he began to teach piano at the Academy for Music in Ljubljana, where he was, in 1997, elected to be a senior university teacher. Since 1990, he has been regularly employed with this institution. His performs mostly as a soloist and with various orchestars (Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchester of RT Slovenia, Basel Symphonic Orchestra, Orchestra FMU Belgrade), and conductors (A.Nanut, M.Munih, M.Letonja, S.Robinson, D.deVillers, H.Rodmann, N.Aleksejev, I.Gjadrov, S.Љepič and N.Bareza).

As a soloist, he performed at many well known concert halls, e.g., in the Great Hall of Basel City Casino, Gallus Hall of »Cankarjev dom«, in Ljubljana, Union Hall in Maribor, the Great Hall of V.Lisinski in Zagreb, the Hall of »Glasbeni zavod« in Zagreb, and the Hall of the University of Kolarac in Belgrade. He performed in Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany and various music centres of the former Yugoslavia. Tomaž Petrač is an invited guest of the festivals »Gričke večeri« in Zagreb, »Ohridsko ljeto« in Ohrid, Ljubljana Festival, and teh Festival of 20th Century Music in Radenci. Chamber music performances have, all the time, represented an important part of his artistic activities.
