Planinka Atic

Planinka Atic graduated from from Secondary music school in Tuzla (Class Safija Čelebić – Džonlagić) and later the Academy of Music in Sarajevo as a excellent student of Prof. Matusja Blum. As a recipient of the French Government Scholarship, she furthered her studies at “Ecole Normale de Musique – Alfred Cortot” in Paris under the tutelage of Prof. Ramzi Yassa, himself a student of Sergei Dorenski at Moscow Conservatory.

She held recitals and concert with orchresta and made recordings for TV Sarajevo. Planinka Jurisic Atic was on piano faculty of Music High School in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, until 1995. Since then, Ms. Jurisic Atic lives in Maribor, Slovenia, and continues to teach piano at Specialized School for Music and Ballet, as one of the most respected and sought-after pedagogues. As a very young pedagogue, Ms. Jurisic Atic achieved significant accomplishments in work with her students, who won highest prizes at republic, national, and international competitions, recorded for radio and TV stations in former Yugoslavia, and performed in numerous concerts. In 1987, she received an award given to the most successful pedagogue at the Republic Competition for the Young in Tuzla.

In addition, she was a frequent adjudicator at regional, republic and international competitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina Slovenia and Serbia. She was invited with her students to attend EPTA’s Inaugural Congress of Piano Pedagogues in Rovinj, Croatia (1988). Students from Planinka Jurisic Atic graduated from high music schools in Sarajevo, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Ljubljana, Weimar, Graz, Vienna, Oslo, Rotterdam, Fermo, New York, Boston .. Some of her students are accomplished artists in their professional environments today: Vladimir Valjarevic, concert pianist and piano instructor at Mannes College of Music in New York City; Edin Mustacevic, pianist in Norway; Belma Beslic Gal, pianist and composer in Vienna, etc. Among her former students is the young Slovene pianists, Fada Azzeh and the very promising young jazz pianist, Arsenije Krstić.

Very talented young pianists Klara Luznik and Adam Kamplet who have won a large number of prizes at international competitions are also her former students.

She regularly holds master class and seminars for young pianists, and since 2016 she is one of the professors at the International Summer Music School in Pučišće on Brač (Croatia).

Planinka Jurisic Atic was given by the Slovene Ministry of Education the title of a specialist-adviser, the highest honor in high school level education in Slovenia.

The Association of Slovenia Music School awarded her the prestigious Gerbich prize for special achievements in the field of music education in 2018.

In 2023, she also received the “Matusja Blum” pedagogic award for life’s work, which is awarded by the Sarajevo High School of Music to prominent piano pedagogues at the Matusja Blum Memorial in Sarajevo.
